AMERICOM Goverment Services

Agency
United States Forces, Korea (USFK)

Department
Part of U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM)

Mission
Support the United Nations Command (UNC) and Republic of Korea-United States Combined Forces Command (ROK-U.S. CFC), and coordinate planning among U.S. component commands in Korea as directed by U.S. Commander in Chief, Pacific (USCINCPAC).

Challenge
USFK must coordinate all U.S. military assistance to the Republic of Korea (ROK), and oversee all U.S. governmental coordination. When USFK decided they needed to upgrade their satellite communications network and teleport facility to meet this challenge, they looked to a partner with a long heritage of service to the American military.

Solution
In 2004 United States Forces, Korea (USFK) decided to upgrade its satellite communications infrastructure to assure availability of space-based bandwidth to coordinate U.S. military and government support to the Republic of Korea (ROK). Demand for satellite communications (satcom) had been increasing steadily and USFK needed to assure an abundant supply of efficient and secure satellite network communications.

Demand for satellite communications (satcom) had been increasing steadily and USFK needed to assure an abundant supply of efficient and secure satellite network communications.

AMERICOM Government Services (AGS) was awarded the contract to provide these services to USFK. Working in tandem with a team from Northrop Grumman, AGS designed the Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) network along with customized terminals. AGS provides and maintains a customized teleport hub that serves as the main commercial satellite communications center for USFK, linking numerous active military installations in the ROK and assuring satellite connectivity to the thousands of U.S. military personnel stationed in Korea.

"With AGS' experience in delivering reliable and customer-oriented satellite services to DoD, they were an obvious choice to handle our total program requirements," said Mitch Stevens, USFK program manager at the time of the contract award. "AGS can meet our satellite communications needs in a single integrated, scalable and on-spec solution."

AMERICOM Government Services' solution will provide USFK with Defense Department Internet connectivity, videoconferencing and general telecommunications capabilities through its secure and non-secure networks, to and from Korea.

AGS is dedicated to meeting the DoD's growing and evolving satcom services requirements by leveraging its expertise operating satellite networks and the specific skill sets of key personnel with decades of experience working with federal and civilian agencies.
