AMERICOM Goverment Services

Agency
National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

Department
United States Department of Commerce

Mission
Study trends, perform research and gather data regarding the world's climate, specifically in the area of meteorology, to supply timely information to emergency and public safety officials, as well as to improve the public's knowledge of the environment and its resources.

Challenge
NOAA is responsible for ensuring reliable ship-toshore satellite communications for its maritime fleet. When the agency's requirements demanded more dependable communications connectivity, they sought a government solutions provider with unmatched experience in delivering satellite communications on a global scale.

Solution
Since their inception in 1970 the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been dedicated to discovering new information that would allow them to more accurately predict changes in the world's environment. NOAA uses its research to help create forecasts for use in television and radio around the world, as well as for urgent weather advisories. A significant amount of NOAA's research is collected through its ships which are operated by NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations (NMAO).

NOAA's urgent communication needs for its fleet led the agency to seek a satellite communications provider with a deep understanding of the federal government's stringent requirements for reliable data networks.

NOAA chose AMERICOM Government Services (AGS) as the best partner to support NMAO. AMERICOM Government Services is providing shipboard terminals and satellite capacity on NOAA's vessels to enable secure, global connectivity and reliable communications. Maritime Telecommunications Networks (MTN) is working as a subcontractor to AGS on the NOAA contract.

"NOAA needs dependable ship-to-shore satellite communications, and they were looking for an operator with a track record of excellence serving government customers," said David Kagan, President and CEO of MTN. "We have no doubt that working together with AGS we will deliver the highest quality satcom services to NOAA's maritime fleet."

AGS immediately installed network platforms on seven vessels, enabling both C-band and Ku-band connectivity. The company continues to respond to NOAA's evolving communication needs, helping to enhance the agency's environmental stewardship of coastal and marine resources.
